About This Book

These stories visit maternity wards, sex workers with deformities, and many other things that exist in reality but are kept away from fiction. The focus is on the truth of the human condition, frequently seen through the oft-ignored experiences of marginalised groups.

About The Author

THE WRITER Rashid Jahan (1905-1952), one of the most fiery writers of Urdu literature and a member of the Progressive Writers’ Movement, is famous for, among other writings, her contribution to ‘Angaarey’, an anthology known for its iconoclastic perspectives. A doctor by profession, she was unapologetically feminist, fiercely political, and deeply visceral in her writing. THE TRANSLATOR Himadri Agarwal is a student, researcher, and translator. Currently working on her PhD in English at the University of Maryland, Himadri translates between Hindi, Urdu, and English. Her translation of ‘Banaras Talkies’ by Satya Vyas was published by Penguin Random House in 2022, for which she was featured in ‘The Week’ magazine’s list of 40-under-40 sharpshooters in the arts.
