About This Book
Set in a nameless village in the early twentieth century Kerala, ‘Ego’ traces the inner lives and quiet devastations of those bound by familial duties and obligations. With remarkable psychological insight, Rajalekshmi brings to life Krishnankutty, a sensitive boy whose dreams slowly yield to the disillusionments of adulthood. In this poignant exploration of love, loss, and the self, the ordinary becomes profound.

About The Author
THE WRITER
Rajalekshmi was a pioneering Malayalam novelist known for her razor-sharp focus on women’s struggles within traditional family structures in mid-century Kerala. She was the first female recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1960. Her flourishing literary career was tragically cut short by her suicide in 1965, aged 34.
THE TRANSLATOR
Dhiya Sony is an early-career translator from Ernakulam, Kerala. She graduated from Ashoka University in 2021 and from SOAS, University of London in 2022. When she is not dreaming of worlds far away, she is absorbed in a book or marvelling at the poetic brilliance of yesteryear Malayalam songs.
